Temescal Beach House Wedding

Temescal Beach House Wedding Sarah and Chris held their Temescal Beach House Wedding in Oakland in front of 60 of their closest friends and family. They wanted to acknowledge their Japanese and Jewish roots in the Ceremony with hundreds of handmade cranes for the chuppah and the breaking of glass. They opted to do their family formals before the ceremony, which gave me my first impression of these two goofballs. When Chris was added into a group family photo on Sarah’s side, they immediately started making crazy faces and biting each other without me even directing them! This initial impression let me know that he was so welcomed into their family and that their personalities matched perfectly. It was nice foreshadowing into what turned out to be such a memorable day! I always love personalized ceremonies in the décor, but especially in the actual ceremony. This particular wedding was interesting because they involved more audience participation that what I normally see, asking a handful of the guests to share an anecdote about the couple, based on their own personal stories. It made for touching moments that showed how much the two were loved by everyone. During the reception, after the standard parent and sibling speeches, they allowed for an open invite for the microphone and ten different people stood up to share their well wishes and stories, which further complemented the fact that they were a very loved couple. It was great to get different viewpoints from various guests and I felt that I knew them my whole life from the stories and moments that were shared about the two. Once the music started playing for the group dancing, this group continued on in their goofy ways, encouraging Chris to do his famous monkey dance to everyone’s delight. If you can find the photo, Sarah’s brother ended up mimicking this famous dance move, almost performing it with as much character and emotion as the Groom! 🙂 Sarah and Chris’s Temescal Beach House Wedding will be one to remember!  If you are interested in discussing your wedding, please CONTACT ME to chat details! Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral Wedding

Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral Wedding Tia and Ian held their Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral Wedding in Oakland, choosing this gorgeous cathedral in the Oakland hills with one of the nicest ceiling interiors I have seen. The murals on the ceiling above the altar provided a nice centerpiece to focus on, as I was forced to stay in one place the entire hour ceremony! It was touching to hear that Tia’s sister also had an Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral wedding several years back, so she was happy to give me tips on the wedding ceremony and what to expect during their hour long celebration. She mentioned to me that it is typical for the photographer to stay in one place (her photographer was forced to stay at the same spot also) once the wedding ceremony starts so as not to disrupt the solemnity of the day. The only time I was able to move around would be in the beginning and end of the ceremony, so I definitely tried to take advantage of the situation by first staying in the back balcony for images before coming up front where I would eventually stay. One of the best things about being a wedding photographer is that I am able to meet new cultures and witness so many traditions that most people never experience. This wedding at the Ascension Cathedral was my first Greek wedding, and I hope it won’t be my last! Palm Event Center Wedding

Palm Event Center Wedding Michelle and Jeremy held their wedding ceremony first at St. Bede Church in Hayward, then continued their Palm Event Center wedding in Pleasanton during the early stages of the infamous coronavirus pandemic in world history. Leading up to the wedding day, there were a lot of questions and concerns as to whether the wedding would actually take place, especially given the suggested order of staying indoors and / or complying to social distancing of at least 6 feet. With this in mind, I was a little intrigued by how the guests would react and respond during the wedding, but as soon as I entered the family home for the getting ready portion of the day, it became obvious from the very start that the spirit of the day would not be altered in any way. As you will see from the photos below the joy, love, and beautiful moments were just as evident and natural as any other day despite the world literally shutting down country by country. Having met playing on the same recreational teams, Michelle and Jeremy’s wedding details had hints of a sports theme as the decor and day showcased their love of sports. Both athletic, they utilized their active lifestyle in one of the more fun and engaging first dances I have seen in a while, with several lifts and carries to wow and impress the crowd, including me! 🙂Not settling for just one dance, they surprised the entire room with a flash mob immediately after, as about 16 of their friends and family joined them in the center of the room for a well choreographed dance that would rival BTS (just kidding, no one can touch BTS’s dance moves haha!) I had so much fun documenting this wedding day because despite the unprecedented shutdowns in the world and a little bit of rain, Michelle and Jeremy celebrated their union exactly as they planned, putting forward the same energy and zest for life that their family and friends love them for. This Palm Center Wedding turned out to be one of the most memorable wedding days not because of the historic pandemic, but rather because of the many moments of joy throughout the day, the wicked dance moves, and the constant smiles on Michelle’s face, even after being faked out by Jeremy’s euro-step during the cake cutting! 😀  Venue : Palm Event CenterVideographer : 3007 filmsDJ : Spintronix EventsFlorist : Arrangements by GlesMakeup : Kitty OlitanHair : Art of ChantelCake : Cake Creations by Bev If you would like to discuss your Palm Event Center wedding please CONTACT ME to discuss ideas! https://ianchinphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Michelle-and-Jeremy-Slideshow_2020-03-23_1080p_mp4-1920.mp4 Interested In More Information? Cornerstone Sonoma Wedding

Cornerstone Sonoma Wedding Kaitlyn and Jon held their Cornerstone Sonoma wedding at Cornerstone Winery in Sonoma, California in the Napa Valley, renting out the back barn venue in order to accommodate their small wedding elopement at the venue. With the intent of a small and intimate wedding at Cornerstone Sonoma and then having a casual reception at a nearby bar, they only needed a quick hour and a half photo session in order to photograph the wedding ceremony, group formals, and Couples portraits. Wanting to have a decent amount of time for their couple’s portraits, Kaitlyn and Jon allotted 30 minutes for their portraits in hopes of getting some memorable and unique photographs at this gorgeous winery. The benefit of having a wedding at Cornerstone Sonoma is that it is so large that the normal main area was still open to the public while this back area was being used. I have visited Cornerstone Sonoma as both a photographer and a wine enthusiast, but I had never known that this back area existed.  Cornerstone Sonoma is known for its art displays and unique décor at their main front area, so it was unexpected to see this back area to be more toned down. With Harrow’s pond serving as a back drop during their wedding ceremony, this simple yet scenic landscape allowed everyone all the guests to concentrate on the Bride and Groom in front of them and focus on the touching vows given by both Kaitlyn and Jon and a couple of their guests. One of the memorable aspects of this wedding was Jon’s surprise song he sang to Kaitlyn once she walked down the aisle which was a complete surprise to everyone except him and the guitarist. Kaitlyn acknowledged in her vows how much she loves his singing and it was a simple yet noticeable way of how Jon shows his love to Kaitlyn. During the couple’s portraits around the venue, the guests were able to walk around the venue and appreciate the art on display that they are known for. This quiet period with just the three of the us allowed me to get some input on which parts of the venue they appreciated which included the tree bordering the ceremony area as well as incorporating the vineyards into their images for the classic shot. It was so great getting to spend a few short hours with this Couple and I hope to photograph a Cornerstone Sonoma wedding once again the the future! ralston white retreat wedding bride and groom kissing in the sunlight amongst trees

Ralston White Retreat Wedding

Ralston White Retreat Wedding Adam and Juna chose a Ralston White Retreat wedding for its scenic beauty and its convenient accommodations, since most of Adam’s family was visiting from England, where they also lived and planned most of the wedding. Considering the guest experience, they wanted a convenient location close enough to San Francisco that also provided a gorgeous outdoor setting for their ceremony and enough space to accomodate the many outdoor games they had for their 2 hour long cocktail “hour.” There were many avenues of entertainment throughout the afternoon, and many of the younger kids sat down to the reception with sweat on their faces from all the fun and games! Needless to say, deciding to have a Ralston White Retreat wedding was one of the best decisions they could’ve made! It is always nice to see new ideas at a wedding, and Adam and Juna providing a pinata during their cocktail hour proved ot be the most smile inducing aspects of the day! It was needless to say a fun highlight for everyone watching the newlyweds try to break open the pinata. I don’t know why more people don’t have pinatas at their wedding – they are the best! Not to be outdone by the games, Adam’s mates filled the room with laughter with semi-inappropriate jokes during their toasts, while Juna’s bridesmaids revealed equally funny childhood memories that got the entire room busting out loud. This Ralston White Retreat Wedding was an amazing day full of laughter, love, and candy that proves you can make your wedding as casual as you want ad that you don’t have to stick to traditions if you don’t want to! cemetery wedding with the two brides holding hands and the shadow of her wedding gown showing on the wall

Cemetery Wedding

Cemetery Wedding Roberta and Cu held their cemetery wedding at the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery on Halloween, putting together the most unique wedding idea I have ever experienced! In their planning of their wedding day, they sought out vendors and venues to carry out their ideas, but came across a little trouble finding people who could accommodate their unique sense of style. Fortunately, they found me on Offbeat Bride, which is a website dedicated to nontraditional Couples and ideas such as hosting your very own cemetery wedding! Together with 30 of their family and closest friends on Halloween day, they held their cemetery wedding inside a mortuary chapel where they brought liveliness to an other-wise gloomy setting. With a majority of guests dressed in all black, and some in actual costumes, at first glance you would imagine this union was for a funeral. Judging from the big smiles and laughter heard throughout the day, one would soon realize it was an occasion to celebrate the most joyous of days!Wanting to personalize most aspects of the day to themselves, Cu made all the cemetery wedding related decorations, including a coffin shaped ring box to match their coffin shaped rings. Equally as impressive and unique as the rings themselves, Roberta stunned as she walked down the aisle wearing a custom Videnoir Couture vampire shawl as her own take on the traditional wedding dress. It was easily the most unique wedding I have ever photographed and I hope to encounter more Offbeat Brides because I love the uniqueness of the Couples and their ideas. The Olympic Club Wedding – Jamie and Andrew

Jamie and Andrew held their black tie wedding at The Olympic Club, requesting an adults only affair, to ensure their guests were allowed to let loose and thoroughly enjoy themselves…which, as you can see from the images, they did! 🙂 Leading up to the big day, I would chat with Jamie about how the planning was going, and every time she would nonchalantly say she wasn’t really thinking about it. She was easily one of the most casual soon-to-be brides I had ever met – which was a great introduction into her personality – which of course carried over into the wedding day theme. The majority of the Ceremony, as well as Reception, was all laughs, as stories of how the two reconnected at a party (after meeting at Princeton) and amusing stories of how they bonded over flying airplanes (yes, they’re actual pilots – see their airplane engagement photos – got the near 200 guests cracking up. Both Jamie and Andrew wanted to emphasize enjoying the party and adjusted the day accordingly with only 3 formal group photos and about 15 minutes of couples portraits, before having ample face time with their guests at the cocktail hour, for example. Throughout this time, I would walk around and consistently hear guests tell one another, “Those were the best vows ever!” If the reactions of the crowd don’t convince you, I don’t know what will! 😀 It really was a joyous evening for everyone involved, allowing me to easily capture the laughs and fun throughout the day. It seems to me, their plan worked perfectly!
