Maternity Shoot at Home

Maternity Shoot at Home Klari and Micheal contacted me for their in home maternity shoot for their second child. Not having done maternity photos for their first child, they wanted to ensure that this time around they documented this momentous time in their lives. Having their home in the SOMA district of San Francisco, they had this gorgeous succulent that they wanted to use as a backdrop for their images, and from the look of it, you can easily tell why! As an artist herself, Klari had several pieces of her work shown throughout the house, but ultimately had the most important wall of their home adorned with various family photos, and they are eagerly expecting to add to it with photos of their next child. I don’t do too many in-home maternity sessions since most parents prefer outdoor locations, but after shooting this one, I am a huge fan since it allows the Couple to worry less about the weather, and allows any children opportunities to be themselves in a more familiar environment. This family was so happy and loving it was so easy photographing their joy with each other and for their upcoming child. It is so great when my models are so carefree and comfortable and fall for my jokes, that capturing their smiles and natural laughter is a little too easy! Kennedy Grove Maternity Shoot

Ashley and Roy’s Kennedy Grove Park maternity and family shoot in El Sobrante was a wonderful celebration for their upcoming third daughter. Conveniently located a few minutes from their home, I started with portraits focusing on Ashley and her belly by herself, and then halfway through the rest of the family joined in the session. It is always nice getting away from the City for an outdoor shoot where the weather is a little more predictable. The pretty afternoon sun breathed life into their family photos as the back lighting helped add to Ashley’s pregnancy glow. And with a third girl on its way, the personalities of the two sisters definitely were on display for the entire shoot. 🙂 It is always fun to see the different personalities when it comes to sisters and brothers of various ages. This family shoot was no exception, as the oldest child was more reserved and timid, and the youngest was more out going. It will be interesting to see how the third daughter will be influenced by both personalities of her older sisters growing up – perhaps she will be a nice compliment of both of them? I guess we will soon find out! As you can tell from the natural laughs and loving dynamics of this family, regardless of what personality she has she will fit right in just fine. Thank you Ashley and Roy for allowing me to capture this great moment in your lives with this Kennedy Grove Maternity shoot! Corona Heights Park Maternity Shoot

Corona Heights Park Maternity Shoot As San Francisco natives, Christine and Ryan held their maternity shoot at various locations in San Francisco, starting atop Potrero Hill, then going to the Palace of Fine Arts, and finishing with a Corona Heights Park maternity shoot. With Potrero Hill they hoped for a nice landscape of the City by the Bay, as well as highlight the blue balloon they brought along as a fun prop, which unfortunately was short lived as it accidentally got popped at the next location 🙂 The second setting was the Palace of Fine Arts where they brought out a few other props including a tank to signify Ryan’s nickname, as well as a children’s book that Ryan gave to Christine years ago, referencing one of her favorite books as a child to be able to read to their firstborn. After utilizing the great sunlight at the Palace, we drove and spent the most time for their Corona Heights Park maternity shoot, since it is nearby their house for a convenient final location. Not only does it have a great view of the City, but you can actually see their house atop the hill! I had never been there so it was great to see the City that I love from a different perspective. After taking a few photos with a Mountain Man onesie, reflecting Ryan’s love of the outdoors, they then surprised me with a rainbow scarf, signifying the loss of their first child, which is something I didn’t know about them. It was a touching moment for us being able to pay tribute to the little soul.  Congratulations Christine and Ryan on your little boy! Can’t wait to meet him!  Check out the best maternity / engagement shoot locations in SF for ideas for your shoot! Interested In More Information? Golden Gate Park Maternity Shoot

Golden Gate Park Maternity Shoot Becca and Calvin preferred an outdoor setting in the park for their Golden Gate Park Maternity Shoot, deciding on the Dutch Windmills nearby their house. When people choose Golden Gate Park they typically go for Stow Lake or something more popular, so it was great being able to photograph at another location outside of the normal spots. Becca actually found me via Christine and Ryan’s Maternity Shoot photos posted on Facebook a couple of months prior, as Becca was a former middle school classmate of Christine’s. Referrals are always great and it is always an extra honor when I get them. We were fortunate to have a clear sky and gorgeous light for this Golden Gate Park maternity shoot, allowing us plenty of back light to highlight this beautiful family and wonderful smiles. Their eldest daughter was very excited and anxious to meet her new sister, and happily kissed and hugged her mother’s belly. This beautiful family definitely left an impression on me and I will always think of them when I visit this wonderful garden. The Dutch Windmills are not as common a location to shoot in for my Clients, which is surprising because the gardens are so well kept and the flowers add an extra pop of color and beauty to their images. It was all smiles for this lovely family of three, and I am so fortunate that they found me and honored me with their family maternity shoot. Update : Jason, from this Stern Grove Family Shoot, randomly saw this blog post and recognized his co-worker Calvin. It is a small world full of happy families apparently! Palace of Fine Arts Maternity Shoot

Palace of Fine Arts Maternity Shoot Kurtis gifted his girlfriend, Jenna, a full session package with makeup, hair, and a Palace of Fine Arts maternity shoot as his Christmas gift to her. This was their first shoot and child together, so Kurtis wanted to go all out to properly document this significant occasion for them. They expertly coordinated business casual clothing, with Kurtis actually wearing a tie, which he says he dislikes. They were in such good spirits, being together to celebrate their upcoming child with no regard for the camera and open to laughing out loud and enjoying the moment. For me, maternity shoots are the same as any couples portraits shoots with just a little more focus on the belly, so I was happy to add in some solo portraits of the glowing mother-to-be to help further commemorate this great time in her life. We spent a majority of the time near the Dome, then proceeded to the other end to do more landscape photos and show off the beauty of the Palace of Fine Arts. Palace of Fine Arts for your maternity shoot is a great location for its variety in backgrounds as well as the architecture to add to your images. Jenna added to the elegant look of the location by adding in a stylish hat, which I was immediately drawn to. For some reason, whenever I see someone with a hat, I always want to have playful images of them tossing it, either towards the camera or to each other like hot potato, which they happily obliged with 🙂 Though perhaps unorthodox for a maternity shoot, I tell my Clients it is not about the action but rather the reaction and the huge smiles and body language. Hopefully, as you will see on their huge smiles from ear to ear, it proved my point! Congratulations Kurtis and Jenna on your upcoming first born and it was an honor being able to document such an important milestone for you two with this Palace of Fine Arts maternity shoot!  If you’d like to have a maternity shoot please CONTACT ME to discuss details! Baker Beach Maternity Shoot

Baker Beach Maternity Shoot Courtney and Pablo held their first Baker Beach maternity shoot, wanting to commemorate this new and exciting period in their lives for their first born by driving up from Fresno and enjoying San Francisco for a few days. Not knowing the City that well, they desired a beach setting and I happily recommended Baker Beach because it is the most common place I shoot in, but also the cleanest beach setting in San Francisco. I love the fact that they brought some props to the shoot, which allowed us to play with new poses and ideas and not simply focus on Courtney’s stomach. Whenever your Couples have something to read or hold, they always allow the shoot to be more natural and allows for more candid reactions and emotions. I don’t mind shooting traditional photos (I always do I just don’t show them much on my website because they are too basic and anyone can take a posed photo!) but always love putting my own fun twist that Couples seem to hire me for, such as telling them to toss their little child’s shoes to each other, in addition to simply holding it above the belly. No Baker Beach maternity shoot is complete without taking photos with the iconic Golden Gate Bridge behind you, and the low tide that day helped provide some gorgeous reflections that help make the photos pop. Pro tip – shooting at a low angle inches above the water helps with the reflections! When the light and water come together perfectly at Baker Beach, the photos are just magical and I was so happy the conditions allowed for some beautiful light for this couple visiting from out of town. When the stars align it makes it obvious why so many people choose a Baker Beach maternity shoot!  Congratulations Courtney and Pablo on your first child! Interested In More Information?
