8 Things to Do at Wedding Reception Besides Dance

8 Things to Do at a Wedding Reception Besides Dance – Wedding Planning Help for Couples and Planners

Are you looking for some fun and unique things to do at your wedding reception besides dance? If so, you’ve come to the right place! In this post, I’ll share a few of my favorite ideas that will keep your guests entertained all night long. So whether you’re looking for ideas for your own wedding or not, read below for vendors and other things to do at a wedding reception besides dance.

Open Bars with a Twist

There’s usually a bar or two set up at wedding receptions, so this is the obvious choice…but why not make it a little more unique by setting up beer pong or flip cup tables for more group fun?

Impersonators

If you’re looking for ways to keep your guests entertained at your wedding, why not consider hiring impersonators joking / taking photos? Singing Elvis? Dancing Michael Jackson? They can be a lot of fun and really get the party started. Plus, they can help break the ice between guests who don’t know each other well.

Magicians

Similar to impersonators walking around, magicians going around tables doing sleight of hand magic tricks is a great way for people to naturally gather and be more social. These are always fun to see up close!

Photobooth / Videobooth

Photobooths are one of the most popular additions to a wedding. Photo / video booths are always a lot of fun and provides a great way for guests to capture memories from the wedding and acts as a nice souvenir for guests to take home.

Sketch Artist

Another fun unique idea is to have a caricaturist there. They can quickly sketch out your guests as they arrive and it’s always a lot of fun to see the final product. It might be a good idea to hire two different artists, since they take several minutes per person.

Arcades

Sport games are always a hit no matter where, but including them in weddings (basketball, air hockey, punching bag, etc) is a good sign people will have a good time. They are social and give you a chance to cool down after the dance floor!

Lawn Games

Jenga and Cornhole are two of the most popular lawn games out there…with good reason! They are fun and social activities that work for people of all ages. One of my favorite photos was taken with a Jenga tower, so I’m a little biased…but the natural reactions when the tower falls makes for some awesome images also!

Pinata

EVERY PARTY SHOULD HAVE A PINATA! I mean…what better way to bring smiles to everyone’s faces by breaking open a pinata filled with goodies?! I’ve only seen this once, but from that 2017 wedding until now I have always hoped to see another one at a wedding to give other  things to do at wedding reception besides dance.

Conclusion

Well, there you have it! Eight fun and unique ideas for things to do at wedding reception besides dance to keep guests entertained. Hopefully this will give you a few new ideas as you plan your own wedding reception, and help to alleviate some of the stress that comes with planning a party for hundreds of people!

20+ Places for an Elopement in San Francisco

20+ Best Places for an Elopement in San Francisco Ultimate Guide to the 20+ Best Places for an Elopement in San Francisco(with prices, photos, and packages) Eloping and curious about the best places for an elopement in San Francisco? Want to say your vows in the outdoors but don’t want to drive too far away from the City? Elopement locations in San Francisco range from redwoods to rooftops, and choosing a venue setting can be just as varied. While everyone raves about Yosemite or Lake Tahoe (with good reason), the reality is we don’t always have the time or desire to drive several hours one way to get married. This being said, I created this list of best places for an elopement in San Francisco (and locations outside of San Francisco proper) to help those who still desire an intimate and beautiful location in the San Francisco Bay Area for their wedding.  If you would like to see what an elopement might look like, check out these full galleries from previous Bay Area elopements: SF City Hall Elopement (Mayor’s Balcony)SF City Hall Elopement (Rotunda)Golden Gate Park ElopementOld Mill Park ElopementMuir Woods ElopementMarin Civic Center ElopementHastings House Garden Weddings Elopement Where to Elope in San Francisco – My Top Picks 1) Muir Woods2) Shelldance Orchid Gardens 3) San Francisco City Hall4) Palace of Fine Arts5) Filoli Gardens 6) The Mountain Terrace7) Hastings House Garden Weddings8) San Francisco Botanical Garden9) Shakespeare Garden10) Deer Park Villa Where to Elope in San Francisco – My Top Picks 1) San Francisco City Hall Marriage License : $110Ceremony Fee : $901 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Pl, San Francisco, CA 94102 This is easily the most popular and best place to elope in San Francisco hands down. The stunning interior and exterior rival actual wedding venues and its centrally located in SF so you can easily explore the City afterwards. With over 200 weddings photographed here, I always strive to give you images that aren’t so cookie cutter and like anyone else’s. If you want to keep things as simple as possible, let San Francisco City Hall do it all for you! They will provide the officiant, standard vows, and your ceremony will be done in less than 5 minutes.  Check out my Ultimate Guide to San Francisco City Hall Weddings for more detailed information! 2) Palace of Fine Arts Reservation Fee : $506Hourly Rate (2 hr min) : $144Refundable Deposit : $5003601 Lyon St, San Francisco, CA 94123 One of the most recognizable landmarks and best places for an elopement in San Francisco, the Palace of Fine Arts is known for its rotunda and architecture in the heart of San Francisco. For such a popular and ornate location, just having your ceremony is surprisingly affordable since it belongs to SF Park and Rec. Take a look at my ultimate guide to a Palace of Fine Arts Wedding for more detailed information! 3) Stern Grove (currently unavailable – under construction 2022) Reservation Fee : $50 – $150Hourly Rate (6 hr min) : $153 – $178Outside Fees : $200Refundable Deposit : $75019th Avenue and, Sloat Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94132 Locals will know this location for its free summer concerts, but for most of the year it is a quiet park that occasionally holds smaller weddings. This park sits near the edge of the City and offers a small redwood grove seemingly meant for intimate weddings. The Trocadero Clubhouse can also be rented out if you want to host a little reception as well. Since it’s not the most centrally located SF venue on this list, it is one of the more forgotten wedding venues, which makes it one of the best places for an elopement in San Francisco in my opinion. Check out my “Ultimate Guide to a Stern Grove Wedding” for more details! 4) Shakespeare Garden Reservation Fee : $506Hourly Rate (2 hr min) : $144Refundable Deposit : $500335 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, San Francisco, CA 94118 One of the more popular and best places for an elopement in San Francisco, this small garden in Golden Gate Park allows a great setting for an intimate place to say your vows. Because of its size and isolation from the other more popular gardens, this is a preferred setting for those wanting a more natural background with less natural foot traffic compared to the Botanical Gardens.  Check out this Shakespeare Garden Wedding for inspiration! https://youtu.be/JIF4ytamSm0 CONTACT ME TO DISCUSS YOUR ELOPEMENT IN SAN FRANCISCO 5) San Francisco Botanical Garden Reservation Fee : $875 – $10,000 (5 locations to choose from)Golden Gate Park1199 9th Ave San Francisco, CA, 94122 This well manicured Garden in the middle of Golden Gate Park is a passed over gem from even San Francisco residents. How to Plan a Wedding in Big Sur

How to Plan a Wedding in Big Sur The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Wedding in Big Sur (complete with tips and venue information) There are few places on the west coast as stunning as having a wedding in Big Sur. Known for state parks and coastal scenery, countless couples have planned their wedding in Big Sur and it is becoming one of the more popular locations to exchange vows and take wedding photos. Below is the ultimate guide for all your planning needs for a wedding in Big Sur.  1 Simple Method to Having a Wedding in Big Sur All you really need to plan your elopement or wedding in Big Sur is an officiant, a marriage license, and one witness.  And of course, CONTACTING a photographer like me! Getting the Marriage License Your wedding in Big Sur can’t be official without a marriage license. In California, a marriage license can be obtained in any county for a ceremony held in the state, even if the marriage is held in a different county. Big Sur is in Monterey County, so you can get the license from San Francisco County, for example. However, you must return the license to the county that issued it, along with the signature of the officiant and at least one witness.  For out of town couples, it’s popular to stay in San Francisco while having your wedding in Big Sur. If this is the case with you, read up on how to get your marriage license in my San Francisco City Hall Weddings Planning Guide And if you are flexible with locations, take a look at the Best Places to Have an Elopement in San Francisco Big Sur Wedding Permit Best Times of the Year for a Wedding in Big Sur There are more ideal times to have your wedding at Big Sur. How to Plan a Wedding in Muir Woods

How to Plan a Wedding in Muir Woods Ultimate Guide for Planning a Wedding in Muir Woods (with pricing, photos, and video) Planning a wedding in Muir Woods is a dream for many nature-loving couples. The towering redwoods, calming atmosphere, and intimate environment create the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable celebration. However, organizing a wedding in this iconic park requires careful planning, from obtaining permits to understanding the limitations at this popular elopement venue. In this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know to plan the perfect wedding in Muir Woods – step by step. TLDR Muir Woods is easily walkable and centrally located between San Francisco and Napa Valley. Muir Woods weddings allow a maximum of 30 guests and require advance permit approval. Wedding permits include a $60 non-refundable application fee, with additional costs depending on the event category, staffing, and park impact. Weddings in Muir Woods are done before 10AM or after 4:30PM and are ceremony only, with no reception allowed. Cell phone service is limited, so timelines, meeting points, and vendor communication should be planned ahead. Ceremony options are limited, making Muir Woods best for simple, intimate weddings. Why a Wedding in Muir Woods  Muir Woods is a stunning location to visit, let alone get married in. The picturesque nature of Muir Woods and the central location between San Francisco and Napa Valley makes it a very popular spot to celebrate. It’s incredibly well-maintained (1.5 miles of ramps and mostly flat trails make it very easy to walk) and only allow ceremonies before 10AM or after 4:30PM, ensuring you and your guests have more privacy. A Muir Woods Elopement There are few areas more perfect and convenient than a Muir Woods elopement. An elopement in this Bay Area forest means you and your partner can have the perfect outdoor wedding surrounded by centuries old trees. Eloping here allows you time to focus on intention while allowing for some awesome photography. It’s an ideal location for a wedding that combines a love of the outdoors and an appreciation for nature. photo by Ian Chin Photography How to Book a Muir Woods Wedding Permit Application: Fill out a permit application at this site ($60 non – refundable application fee)Email: goga_permits@nps.gov Note: Submitting an application does NOT mean your permit request has been approved It takes 4-15 business days for initial permit application review Once your permit is approved, it can take several months for your permit specialist to write your permit NPS accepts applications up to a year in advance Muir Woods Fees / Muir Woods Wedding Permit and Size Muir Woods is a national park, so you will still need to complete a permit (starting at $60). Regardless of the size of your group (even if it’s just the marrying couple and an officiant), all events need to be processed and approved in advance, with appropriate permits Permits are required for any size group (maximum of 30 guests) Muir Woods Wedding Venue Restrictions Firstly, there is very LITTLE TO NO CELL SERVICE in this park so keep this in mind! Given the nature of the Park, no animals, chairs, decor, music, or reception is allowed. Having a wedding in Muir Woods means it is strictly a standing ceremony location (although there are a few benches) so plan on a reception elsewhere (read below for recommendations). Muir Woods Elopement Packages My photo packages start at $1400, and associate photographer packages start at $1000 for up to 2 hours. Videography packages start at $1000 which include a 2 – 3 minute highlight reel and all unedited footage. LETS TALK ABOUT YOUR WEDDING AT MUIR WOODS Best Months for a Wedding in Muir Woods This site shows the best hour by hour weather to help plan your wedding at Muir Woods Muir Woods Wedding Photography and Walkthrough https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHcJNX09nCk Post Ceremony Reception Ideas Since Muir Woods only allows ceremonies, you will need to find a reception location that best fits your style. If you want to minimize the commute, San Rafael provides a nice compromise for cuisine options and proximity, while San Francisco will have more variety. Check out my food and drink recommendations for San Francisco and my recommendations for San Rafael. Muir Woods Trails For those more adventurous types, perhaps adding a hike before or after your Muir Woods wedding speaks to you! Take a look at this trail guide to help in your planning.
